The One Question That Could Transform Your Online Strategy!

What’s missing in your data strategy might surprise you.

In partnership with

Hey, it’s David!

My good friend Chris Muccio is teaching another semester of Web and Social Media Analytics to MBA students.

As someone who loves data and analytics, I couldn’t resist diving into a conversation about it.

Chris mentioned that both his students and corporate clients struggle with a basic, yet critical, concept that completely derails their online success. Naturally, I had to know what it was.

Here’s what he shared:

But Before That A Quick Word From Our Sponsor:

Natural Is planning to list on the Nasdaq

Natural solutions are already better for the environment. Med-X is taking it a step further: their natural pesticides outperform various chemical alternatives. Better yet, they’re taking on private investors as they plan their Nasdaq listing (ticker: MXRX). And you now have a limited time to invest before it happens. Med-X has had 200% revenue growth in five years. And with the pesticide market expected to grow 3X by the end of the decade, now is the perfect time to join them.

“When I’m working with clients and their online data, I always start with one basic question: What’s your goal? And the challenge is that very few can articulate it!

If they can’t articulate their online goals, there’s no way to optimize the path to achieve them and extracting actionable insights from their data becomes nearly impossible.”

It’s such a simple question, but it drives home a powerful point:
No defined online outcome = No optimization path = No actionable insights.

So, here’s something to consider: If Chris asked you about your goal, how would you answer?

Data and Decisions: Avoiding Turbulence

…How do I avoid turbulence on this flight?

Ever feel like you’re drowning in data?

During a recent flight, a founder shared how their business was struggling to hit revenue goals despite making “data-driven” decisions. When I asked how confident they were in their data, they paused.

It’s a common trap. We trust numbers because they look official. Charts, graphs, percentages, they all feel reliable.

But here’s the harsh reality: Bad data leads to bad decisions.

Outdated customer info, inconsistent metrics, or unreliable sources don’t just slow you down; they actively mislead you.

How to Ensure Your Data Works for You:

  1. Audit Your Data.
    Ask yourself:

    • Where is this data coming from?

    • How often is it updated?

    • Is it consistent across platforms?

If your sources don’t align or seem outdated, it’s time for a cleanup.

  1. Verify Before You Trust.
    Double-check key metrics:

    • Are revenue numbers reconciled with your accounting software?

    • Does customer data sync across your CRM and email tools?

Spot-checking now saves costly errors later.

  1. Automate Where Possible.
Minimize manual entry to reduce mistakes. Use tools that sync data automatically.

  2. Implement Continuous Cleaning.
Data isn’t “set it and forget it.” Regularly review and update databases. Clean today doesn’t mean clean tomorrow.

The Bottom Line:

Good decisions come from trustworthy data.

What’s one strategy you use to keep your data clean and reliable?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
